The key aims of the SET for Sport initiative are:

• To help increase the study of engineering, and raise appreciation of the diversity of the roles that engineering plays.
• To provide insight into engineering as a subject and a career in a way that is accessible to children from different backgrounds and age groups.
• To promote engineering in areas and communities experiencing significant social disadvantage, and in groups where historically there has been very little interest in following this career pathway.
• To enable volunteers develop new communication skills and establish new networks with other engineers.
• To provide companies and institutions with an opportunity to promote their outreach activities.
• To provide companies with an opportunity to use SET for Sport as a team-building event.
• To encourage development of new problem solving skills, and to raise children's aspirations with regard to their own capabilities and interests.
