&lt;p&gt;The key aims of the SET for Sport initiative are:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;To help increase the study of engineering, and raise appreciation of the diversity of the roles that engineering plays.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;To provide insight into engineering as a subject and a career in a way that is accessible to children from different backgrounds and age groups.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;To promote engineering in areas and communities experiencing significant social disadvantage, and in groups where historically there has been very little interest in following this career pathway.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;To enable volunteers develop new communication skills and establish new networks with other engineers.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;To provide companies and institutions with an opportunity to promote their outreach activities.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;To provide companies with an opportunity to use SET for Sport as a team-building event.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;To encourage development of new problem solving skills, and to raise children's aspirations with regard to their own capabilities and interests. &lt;/li&gt;
